HOW TO SUSTAIN THE FIRE OF AN ENCOUNTER WITH GOD
Acts 13:36; Matthew 3:11
Whenever God sets up an encounter with man, His intention is to pour out His fire power for His service on earth.
The Bible is full of accounts of men who had encounters with God and went ahead to do great things for the Lord and for their generation. The question now is, if you have been baptized with the Holy Ghost and fire, if you have encountered God, what are you doing for the Lord and for your generation?
Are you okay to live everyday unmoved by the fact that millions are lost and heading to hell? Are you okay with the fact that the church seems to be asleep and overwhelmed by the world?
No! We cannot be at ease in Zion. Every genuine encounter with God cannot leave you the same.
If you genuinely contact the fire of God, you cannot keep still (Jeremiah 20:9). You will not but do the work of the evangelist. You will not but preach the gospel. Like Jesus, are you about your father’s business? (Luke 2:49) Is your meat and drink (your fulfilment) to do the will of God? (John 4:34). What is that weight and sin that is hindering you from running the race? (Hebrews 12:1) Who is that Delilah that is stripping away your consecration and short-circuiting the anointing in your life?
We have been redeemed, energized and empowered for a purpose. We cannot afford to divert that power to frivolities. What are you doing with all God’s investments on you? God is pouring His Spirit on you in meetings, giving you dreams and opening up visions everyday, what are you doing with it? Do you just write it down and tuck it away? God’s outpouring is not for notebooks and vain conversations but for service to God! It’s time to wake up and begin to run with the vision for a time is coming when you will not be able to do the work of God (Eccl. 12: 1-8).
What is that passion that used to burn in your heart? What is that assignment God has called you to? Go back to it. Get God’s fire on your life and keep that fire sustained so you can stay on track till the end.
So, how do you sustain the fire?
1) Stop meddling with sin – Psalm 66:18; Rev. 3: 15. Stop down-playing the gravity of sin. Stop measuring your stand before God by your performance before men. Stop justifying disobedience. Stop being judgemental and critical.
2) Re-ignite the fire on your altar of fellowship with God. It is your fellowship with God that empowers you to overcome the evil one, therefore you must give attention to that – 1 John 2: 14.
3) Throw Yourself into passionate service to God and His work – Romans 12:11. Don’t serve as men-pleasers but unto God (Colossians 3:17). Do the work as though everything depends on you. Whenever you make a commitment to service, God takes record of your commitment and your faithfulness and rewards (Galatians 6:9). Let your motivation for service not be reward but your appreciation to God for what He has done to redeem you. Don’t be a volunteer in service, be a bond-servant (2 Corinthians 11: 23-31).
Read Revelations 2:4-5. The secret of sustaining the fire is to remember from where you fell, repent and hold on to your first love and be consistent in your first works.
